Board Certified Behavior Analyst

 

Amy K. Rodriquez, M.A. is a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA) with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, and certified Texas educator with the Texas Education Agency. Amy acquired a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in College Station, and a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Houston, in Clear Lake. Amy is a member of the Association of Applied Behavior Analysis International (ABAI), Psi Chi Honor Society and the University of Houston, Clear Lake Alumni Association. Amy taught High School Spanish in HISD and Spring Branch ISD for a total of 10 years, before achieving board certification in applied behavior analysis. Since 1998 Amy has served students with learning differences. While teaching Amy employed differentiated instruction strategies to accommodate the various learning styles of her students. It was there that Amy developed a profound respect for students diagnosed with cognitive and developmental deficits.

Today Amy works with children, adolescents, and adults diagnosed with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and behavioral disorders. Amy conducts functional behavior assessments to determine probable functions of problem behavior. Amy is an expert in the development and implementation of treatment plans used to decrease the display of problem behaviors. Amy Also conducts the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) to determine a child’s level of functioning, and to track the development of emerging skills.

Amy designs learning programs for children who are acquiring language skills, social skills, pre-academic skills, adaptive skills (self-care), and play skills. Amy is at her best performing on-site therapies, in the natural setting. Amy performs aba therapies in the home, school, clinic and vocational settings.

Treating children with autism is near and dear to Amy’s heart. Amy’s only son was diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in 2004. Through personal experience Amy recognizes that even children with autism have a tremendous potential to learn. Amy is hopeful and confident that every child can benefit from applied behavior analysis and the therapies that she delivers.
