Ready to go to college does not mean ready to be successful there. It is much harder to complete a degree than many people realize. In this country we graduate between 50 to 56% of those who enter. Students with risk factors such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, and learning differences, to name a few, are at much greater odds of not completing their degrees. With the expense of attending college on the rise, parents and students need to be clear as to what is expected and what the requirements are for individual successful functioning.

Dr. Havasy has been working with at-risk young people as complicated launchings for the past 20 years. She has learned that families launch young adults, the rest of us only assist. The goal of the College Readiness Group is for parents and students to appreciate the joint effort involved in successful college launching, the student vulnerabilities that could jeopardize the process if not addressed in an ongoing way, and what needs to be put in place prior to attendance.

This year’s group is for High School Seniors and their parents. The first session, on Thursday February 12th from 5 – 6 pm., is a joint session with students and parents. Dr. Havasy will then meet with the students for 7 additional sessions. The program will wrap up with 2 family sessions to be scheduled independently to complete necessary college planning. Launching young adults is a family affair. It does not end when the student is enrolled in higher education. The agenda just changes. Let Dr. Havasy help you and your student.
